AVI soundtrack problem patch for Windows 98

Users of early versions of Windows 98 and some specific non-Soundblaster sound cards might be unable to hear the audio clips of the Keystone Marketing educational CDRoms. This problem was introduced by a minor change made by Microsoft with the initial releases of Windows 98. If you have an early release of Windows '98 and cannot hear the audio tracks of the Keystone CDRoms, you should download and install the following update, which will correct this problem.

How to install the update

  1. This update will install a new version of the file tb60lnl.dll. It is recommended that you make a copy of the existing tb60lnl file before proceeding. The file to copy is:
    c:\program files\asymetrix\shared tools\tbsystem\tb60lnl.dll

  2. Download the file soundfix.exe (~98K) to a temporary directory on your computer. You can do so by double-clicking on the following link:
    ftp://ftp.asymetrix.com/pub/tb2/common/6x/updates/soundfix.exe
Note the location to which you download this file.

  3. Once the download is complete, locate the downloaded soundfix.exe file using Windows Explorer. Double-click soundfix.exe and enter the directory :
    c:\program files\asymetrix\shared tools\tbsystem

  4. You will be prompted with a dialog box requesting if you want to overwrite the older version of the file. Click YES.

  5. Now the patch is installed and you should be able to listen to AVI soundtracks
    in Windows 98.
