Burwell Livestock Market – Burwell
Annual Holiday Cow Classic sold 3445 head of heifers on Friday 12/29/17.
Bred heifers that were artificial inseminated (AI’d) for a short calving
period (2 to 4 day) were more sought after than there sisters that were
bull bred for 20-50 days. Bulk of the heifers will calve in February with
some lingering into March. Saturday 2368 head comprised of dispersion of
cows and herd reduction of bred cows with these lots calving from
February to April. Most offerings both days were black hided with some
red hided and Hereford cows in the mix. Bulk were bred to easy calving
Black Angus bulls along with Red Angus and Hereford bulls. A full crowd
of buyers on hand both days with several loads heading to the Southern
Plains. High internet activity from both web-site providers was noted on
a cold blustery day.
